Recognizing the Symptoms & Root Causes of NAFLD.
Fatty Liver Disease — specifically Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) — is becoming increasingly common, affecting nearly 1 in 3 adults in the U.S. Often called a “silent” condition, many people don’t realize they have it until it has already impacted their energy, weight, hormones, or overall wellness. If you’ve been experiencing unexplained fatigue, stubborn weight gain (especially around the belly), or digestive discomfort, your liver may be asking for support.

THE LIVER'S JOB
The liver is responsible for over 500 critical functions, including filtering toxins, regulating hormones, supporting digestion, and managing fat and blood sugar metabolism. When fat starts accumulating in the liver — often without any alcohol intake — it can disrupt all these processes, leading to a cascade of symptoms. These may include bloating, brain fog, right upper abdominal pain, sluggish digestion, poor concentration, or even skin changes like darkened patches or acne. The good news? Fatty liver can be reversed — but only if the underlying root causes are addressed.
Many conditions are strongly connected to NAFLD. One of the most significant is Metabolic Syndrome, which is a group of risk factors that include insulin resistance, high blood pressure, elevated triglycerides, low HDL (good cholesterol), and abdominal obesity. Individuals with Type 2 Diabetes, PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), or cholesterol imbalance are especially at risk. Even if you’re not overweight, having visceral fat (fat around the organs) can be enough to affect liver health. Chronic stress and HPA axis dysfunction, which disrupt cortisol balance, also play a major role — and conditions like insomnia or poor sleep quality only worsen the liver’s ability to detox and regenerate overnight.

SUPPORTIVE OPTIONS AVAILABLE
Unfortunately, Western medicine does not offer a treatment plan for NAFLD until it progresses to cirrhosis or significant liver damage. Patients are often told to “lose weight and exercise,” but offered little guidance on how to address the hormonal, metabolic, and digestive imbalances that caused the condition in the first place. By contrast, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and herbal medicine focus on early intervention and treating the root causes before the liver is permanently damaged. TCM views the liver as the organ responsible for the smooth flow of qi (energy), blood, and emotions — and when imbalances occur, stagnation and inflammation arise.
HOW TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICE HELPS
With the right combination of herbal formulas, lifestyle shifts, and acupuncture, liver function can be restored and damage reversed.
Through a combination of herbs like Milk Thistle, Turmeric, Berberine, Black Cumin, Globe Artichoke, and Cinnamon, we can reduce inflammation, improve insulin sensitivity, enhance bile flow, and regenerate liver tissue. These natural tools have been clinically studied for their impact on lowering liver enzymes, reducing steatosis (fat accumulation), and improving metabolic function.
TCM INSIGHT: The Liver and the Soul's Purpose
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the liver is more than a physical organ — it’s the home of the “Hun,” or the soul. The Hun governs our sense of direction, creativity, vision for the future, and our connection to divine guidance. When the liver is imbalanced, not only do we feel frustrated or emotionally stuck — we may also feel disconnected from our deeper purpose.
Have you ever felt like you're meant to do more, but you're unsure of what? Or that you have a strong desire to grow, evolve, or shift your life’s direction — but you can’t quite move forward? That’s the Hun calling.
When the liver is supported and flowing freely, we feel: Clear about our life’s path Empowered to take aligned action Connected to something greater — our soul's purpose
Balancing your liver is more than physical healing — it’s a reconnection to your true self.
